CONWY. In 1283 during the reign of Edward I, the construction of this magnificent medieval castle began. The structure was essentially built as a means of defense from the Welsh people who strongly opposed the settling of the English colony in the town of Conwy. Today, the cellars, chapel, and towers can be toured. The magnificence of the castle perched mightily on the hills with its eight colossal towers and surrounding wall remains intimidating.

Quietly nestled in a remote area near the Great Orme and the sea is this small and beautiful church. St. Tudno's Church was the original site of Llandudno. The present St. Tudno's Church was occupied from the 12th to the 15th centuries. It was then abandoned until the mid-19th century, at which point restoration attempts were begun. Many of the furnishings were retrieved from scattered locations. The stone baptismal font, for instance, was a watering trough at a nearby farm. Inside the stone structure, it is dim, hushed, and otherworldly in its serenity. It is a living parish with services being held here.
